Like all other cultural institutions in Germany, we have closed Merseburg Cathedral to visitors from 2 November until probably the end of the month. Furthermore, all events planned for the period have been cancelled.
This also includes all conferences as well as activities and projects of the KinderDomBauhütte and the KinderDomusMerseburch in that time span. The cathedral shops in Naumburg and Merseburg are closed.
However, scholarly enquiries to the archives and libraries will be guaranteed. Visits might be possible with an appointment.
"This is incredibly hard for us as an institution that is dependent on visitors. In the past months we could welcome tens of thousands visitors in our Merseburg and Naumburg Cathedrals, and we had high hopes to continue this way", says Dr Holger Kunder, director of Vereinigte Domstifter following the announcement of new federal guidelines from Wednesday.
"Despite the solid number of visitors over summer, we could not balance the losses due to the closing over spring and are now, more than ever, dependent on the promised aid. It is very hard for us to send our staff of the visitor centre back to working short-tume. We really hope for the effect of the measures and hope to reopen in December", Dr Kunde continues.
Visitors can send their rebooking proposals to the Visitor Centre of Vereinigte Domstifter.
