Peace bell brought to the belfry

The Friede bell, which was recast for Merseburg Cathedral for the anniversary year "Consecrated for eternity. 1000 years of consecration of Merseburg Cathedral" for the imperial cathedral and consecrated on 1 October was brought to the belfry this morning. A crane lifted the almost 900-kilogramme bell through a window into the central building between the towers of Merseburg Cathedral. This is the belfry for the small and medium-sized bells. This is where the Friede bell will find its place. Remodelling work will have to take place over the next few weeks to ensure that there is enough space between the bells for the new bell. It will ring for the first time on Reformation Day on 31 October 2021.
